The Journey Is Great for Thee

The Journey Is Great for Thee

Drawing from Elijah’s exhaustion beneath the juniper tree in 1 Kings 19, this sermon speaks to believers who know they are following God’s calling but have reached the limits of their own strength. Elijah had just experienced one of the greatest victories of his ministry, yet only days later he found himself discouraged, depleted, and ready to quit. His experience reminds us that difficulty, exhaustion, and even moments of despair do not necessarily mean that we have misunderstood God’s direction.

God’s response to Elijah was not condemnation or a change of destination. He provided rest, nourishment, and the strength necessary for the road ahead, telling him, “Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.” Through Elijah, Paul, Gideon, Nehemiah, and ultimately Jesus Christ in Gethsemane, this message shows that God often brings His servants to the end of their own resources so they can learn to depend upon His strength rather than their own.

For anyone facing the “last incline”—whether in ministry, work, finances, health, or a personal calling—this sermon offers a message of endurance and hope. God has not abandoned the work He began. He supplies strength day by day, carries His people when they cannot carry themselves, and calls them simply to receive what He provides and take the next faithful step.
